Reminder to Not Deposit Debris on the Road

  • It is a town ordinance (3.04a) to not deposit any foreign matter, which grass clippings and leaves would be considered, on any town roads.  They pose a safety concern for people on bicycles and motorcycles.
  • It is easy to prevent the clippings from flying into the street by mowing with the discharge chute aimed back at the yard.  If you don’t want the clippings in your yard, just rake them up.  They do add nutrients to your lawn if left alone.  It’s inevitable that some grass will fly astray and end up on the roadway, that’s understandable.  But when there are clumps and piles, that is blatant disregard for others safety.
  • Be a good neighbor and make certain that you don’t leave clippings in the street.  Use a blower and blow them back into your yard or use a broom and sweep them up, or cut in a manner that the grass gets thrown away from the street.
